A LIFETIME COMMITMENT
CHARACTERISTICS/TEMPERAMENT:
Often referred to by some breeders as the 'gentlemen's shepherd' because of their somewhat gentle ways, and good manners. A genuine dog with a heart of gold who is utterly DEVOTED to his owner and family. Alert, Attentive, Friendly to those he knows - a little discreet......... can be somewhat reserved at first with strangers, naturally protective of his family and if raised on a farm with livestock is protective of his 'sheep' and property, inquisitive, fun-loving, willingness to please and work, balanced energy, a highly intelligent dog making him a quick learner and great all-round sporting dog. An intuitive and caring dog who is 'constantly' tuned in to his owner and families emotions. The White Swiss Shepherd Dog is a Herding breed, and will naturally follow his owner close to his side all day, he enjoys 'physical, kind' contact with his owner and will often put his head or muzzle on your feet while you are sitting by the fireside. This is not a breed that can be shut out of family life, he needs to be a part of it.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
The White Swiss Shepherd Dog is strikingly beautiful and elegant. Of medium size , well muscled and powerful. His head is wedge shaped showing off his dark almond shape eyes filled with expression and his strongly erect ears directing forward are his crowning glory. His points are dark, pitch black desired - nose, eyelids/brims, lips, nails, paw pads. His topline runs harmoniously over a level back to a gentle sloping croup, and ending at the onset of his bushy tail. This double coated breed has two coat types: a medium (commonly known as a short coat) and a long coat - both types must have an abundance of undercoat with harder guard hairs. Long coated WSSD's show off a beautiful 'mane' around their necks which is often in more abundance in males than females.
The coat is white, preferably snow white. Slight creaming can occur. More common is slight champagne coloring on the hairs around the ears. The WSSD's has a beautiful, effortless gait of rhythmical sequences and steps.
SOCIALIZATION/TRAINING:
The White Swiss Shepherd Dog requires early socializing with children, strangers and other animals. This breed is sensitive to harsh training methods / harsh commands and responds best to consistent, positive praise / reinforcement.
